Cold Springs Cemetery was incorporated in 1840. First of all I would like to say that this is one of the most frightening cemeteries I ever walked into at night. Why? that's the question? Well first off it is said that the ghost of a female hitchhiker was picked up here and murdered and that often she is seen haunting the cemetery. But this is not what makes this cemetery so foreboding. The cemetery is for one in the middle of nowhere. The front of the cemetery is surrounded by a wall with overgrown vines and a mix of rod iron and a tall hill nearby. The cemetery appears to be in a valley the back side of it is surrounded by thick woods, while on the west end is has train tracks then the canal. On the east side is a very high hill at the top you will find a abandoned shack or shed its pretty old and very big since it seems to have some kind of stiller. I did seem to notice that the headstones are very scattered in age for example you would have a headstone from 1850 and the one next to it is 1940. There also is 2 mausoleums one is covered thickly by trees and brush. The county dedicated a bell tower to this cemetery and there is also a crematory right on the property. The cemetery is roughly on 52 acres of land and what I noticed is a lot of the graves have candles lit more then any cemetery I ever been in. Sometimes mistakenly you will be walking and think you are seeing an orb or ghost lights then it turns out to be the flicker of a flame dancing off one of the trees. What makes this cemetery so eerie is that once you are inside you really are confined there is so many trees, hills, dirt roads, woods and the wall. Some of the stones are resting against trees, some fallen, some broke very rarely though will you ever see a statue. The cemetery has 12 unknown war of 1812 soldiers and some of the early pioneers from the Lockport NY area. I also believe some civil war soldiers are buried near the flag pole hence the flags, wreaths etc The county did purchase 100 graves for veterans and almost all them stones are crosses in a separate section. Some tombstones you see are very worn and weathered while you walk off 20 feet and find one all by itself hidden in some bushes. What I would like to add about this cemetery is that something big moves around in the tree line along the west and north ends. It is no animal that I would know of based on what I experienced there. The ghost here are also very friendly they are not angry or shy. You can clearly see that if you check our more recent investigation here by clicking the Reports & Photos Button 2. But right now in my eyes this remains to be one of the more frightening cemeteries I have ever visited since I been in the field. Is it the ghost that are frightening? The thing in the woods? The woman I heard getting murdered in the cemetery? Maybe!! But walking its dark roads at night is enough to want to turn back. Copyright By AngelOfThyNight-Rick |
