The Volusia County courthouse is one of the most beautiful courthouses in the state of Florida. Each hour I hear the bells toll. I decided to investigate the courthouse since it also has alot of history to it. At one time across the street from it stables and a small farm existed. Although I was not the most comfortable visiting here because I know that I have 6 tickets myself that I have to contend with so the last thing I needed was a reminder of them. But I am so drawn into the building the giant windows, stone columns, clocks, old lamps and its historical look.

The Volusia County Courthouse was built in 1927 and was finished in 1929. At that time it cost $500,000 to building and the giant clock tower 110 feet above the foyer was $15,000. On the site where the courthouse stands today the Miller's Livery Stable once stood. In 1888 to 1890 a court house donated by Henry DeLand stood east of here. This was a very small red brick courthouse and by 1910 the county seat moved here and it was improved and the brick covered in stucco. When the new courthouse was built however the Campbell & Miller Ford Garage were torn down which sold Model T Cars to make room. The courthouse has a network of tunnels or rather a basement, jail, marble hallways and today is a symbol of historical Deland. 

Is this courthouse haunted? Yes there are many ghost here perhaps because it was once a place of other properties. The fire that struck downtown struck other buildings near by in the 1880s. But also on site is a police memorial dedicating back to the 1800s and I noticed that I seemed to get my responses when addressing them by name after reading them off on the memorial. I will return here to monitor the supernatural activity and perhaps one day get an opportunity to bring you some photos inside. Today the courthouse is being restored and preserved as a historical landmark. But we also should not forget to preserve the restless which also roam the courthouse.
