Rochester NY Abandoned Tunnel System
We got into Rochester just before dusk and the adrenaline was really starting to kick in knowing that we would be going underneath the city exploring these old tunnels. I am
sure walking in the city looked strange carrying my gear lol. We walked down a very steep slope and in front of a very large opening with a small station to the right and columns that made it look like we were in
Greece over hanging the entrance. As we were entering we ran into 2 guys they seemed to be friendly said yeah man its pretty cool check them out but we got the feeling that they were not paranormal explorers such as us lol. We walked a little ways in seen a split one way to the right one to the left of course we took the Genesee River View and like Indian Jones we walked across a series of boards over the water below. Most boards were missing so we had to walk and slide our feet along the bridges structure to cross I actually had alot of fun doing this. The view of the rapids, falls, flowing threw the bridges made it spectacular. When we got across and further into the tunnel we still had some light coming in the archways where we could see the entire city from.
Although further down the tunnel the archways did disappear and it was nothing but pitch black. As we approached it I seen a skyscraper out one of the archways with a flying saucer restaurant at the very top of it my only regret is not taking a photo of it just to show off. We made our way into the tunnel keeping an eye on some people living there a 100 ft we passed behind us. As we got into the darkness we heard the sound of dragging almost like a coffin, body, box was being dragged. This bothered me a little shining the light and seeing nothing. The thing about these tunnels is there is many pillars, doors, decks, ruins,
inlets, other tunnels Ect which can make it a good place for anybody to hide. We headed back out to a lit area hid low and waited and Pete thought he seen a person standing at the one end looking at us I am almost positive that i seen this to just staring then the other way i could see something white standing in the darkness of the tunnel maybe a ghost? Maybe energy? Maybe a person but there was some white to it so my thoughts were running pretty amidst and curious. so then we pressed on this was not something I would turn down because this is the type of place that I am sure has its ghost people have died in, around these tunnels. We ended up walking a little ways and found that the dragging sound was a pressured steam being released and it seemed the deeper we walked the more we ran into these. This made parts of the tunnel hotter in some areas. The tunnel as we went on went deeper this made it more
foreboding. In many areas of the tunnels there were doors, stairs you could climb up, rooms, rumor has it some of these lead to abandoned buildings, basements to buildings, and the court street train station which now seems to be turned into a restaurant. Some areas were so bad that you would have to climb steep hills in the tunnels just to get up inside some of these areas we did not
pursue any of these areas based on the fact we had less people then expected for this investigation. However as we walked threw the tunnels it became
a lot easier but we still felt that somebody was in there and as we got farther in we could see bike tracks, car tracks so its obvious that people are scared to actually walk in them so some prefer to drive which there is only way way to get a car in them which you can go for a mile in your car before it becomes to rough of terrain. We did not experience
a lot of activity now i thought a few times i heard a bang, a voice, movement near by maybe a ghost maybe a person hiding
although chances are if you do not have a flashlight in this place you will not get very far. We noticed less
graffiti the deeper we got then after about a mile underground we seen some light a way out yes and more tunnel to go yes so we took a break by a way out watched a train high above go by. Then we walked to the very end of the tunnels and walked up to a street. On our way up in the grass was a skunk close by and yes he did have his tail up and armed but we managed to get out his way with no problem. We then spent sometime walking downtown getting a feel for what was above the tunnel system which we just walked. We hiked it a pretty good distance. We walked up to the bridge area where we crossed over the river from the opposite side and enjoyed the view, then followed where the upper tracks use to be to see if we could find another tunnel. So we walked a ways on up noticed the old foundations left from where the tracks use to run near and then they stopped near a very large hill which we all climbed to the top. When we got to the top below us was many
satellite dishes I felt like i was visiting SETI lol we then headed back to the van and some punks decided to park there car and wait for us at the end of the street then follow us in the car slowly driving behind us lucky for them they did not get out because after going threw them tunnels and not getting bit by any
Vampyres I figured at this point i could face the world lol. What we learned from this place is that it has to visited again sometime in the future that way we can take more photos, walk threw it again, bring equipment, things of that sort. All in all our visit there was worthwhile even though there was not
a lot of ghost activity the memories of going into tunnels such as this will always remain. We will be going back so taking volunteers again for this place will be necessary. Now onto the next place we visited tonight after the tunnels which is The Lady In White Investigation At East Durand Park........
More Photos Coming Soon!!

Well, the ride there wasn't bad. I did feel guilty that Rick
sprung for all the gas and the tolls.
Getting into the tunnels was a lot easier than I thought it would
be. It was wide open. The first couple hundred feet wasn't bad at
all. It was like a great adventure. It was still light in the
tunnel. Then it got real dark. No more source of light. The
darkest I've ever seen. I have to admit I got scared. Real scared.
Rick had to convince me to keep going. The noises didn't bother me,
it was the lack of light and the knowledge that we were not alone
down there. There were definitely homeless people living down
there. I didn't like the idea of intruding upon their territory.
Anyhow, we continued and ran into no problems. the tunnels ended
up being a lot longer than we had anticipated. It was a long walk.
There were quite a few different passages and doorways that we did
not explore. I feel that we would need 5 or 6 people to be able to
explore all these passages. More lights and more security.
I took a couple of digital photos, none came out. I don't know
what will turn up on my APS photos.
After the tunnels, we went in search of the "white lady". It was
easy enough to find the foundation rumored to be the remains of her
home. We couldn't find any evidence of the barn that was supposed to
have burned there. We walked through the park for awhile, finding
and sensing nothing.
The ride back was hard. I kept dozing off. again, I'm sorry,
Rick.
It was along night. But, we should go back with more people (and
more LIGHTS!). Let's try to plan this soon.
Pete
