Maple Hill Cemetery was incorporated and had its first burial in 1812. Many of the early pioneers of Darien and the Batavia area are buried here. The cemetery sits on a hill and most stones date back into the 1800s. Many of the stones are weathered a few broke including a father who has his stone hanging by a rope. The cemetery sits on the hill on the country side. Not a lot of people know about this best kept secret. A member browsing our site  wrote me about it and said a lady in blue haunts the 4 corners near it and she also told me that she and her brother have seen strange shadows moving within this cemetery. This cemetery is very pioneer looking almost looks like a place where people were hung and tried and that is the truth. The front wall is made of stones which are starting to collapse, old trees cover most of it all bent and eerie looking, then there is woods towards the back of this old cemetery. Are there ghost here? Yes many different entities walk Maple Hill at night. The place has unusual cold spots, apparitions appear almost at will without even having to try. We were pleased with our results here. You can imagine the history that comes with such as old cemetery. It may be one of the oldest ones in WNY possibly. This place is truly a cemetery treasure and unlike most old historical cemeteries this one still is in use.
