On the Northside of Kyle Canyon is an intricate canyon with a natural spring known as Fletcher Canyon & Springs. Sometimes the trail is the canyon becomes overgrown with thick vegetation due to the fact the spring waters flow all year around. The reaon for my visit here was that I been searching for the three mines that are found within the canyon. I have visited this area twice the first time was just an off trail hike through a wash where when we did not find the mines we decided a second trip back which would take us directly up the canyon rather then one of its washes.

I know from my last two experiences here that my adventures have been thrilling the first time seeing a big cat watching us from near its entrance. The second time however was more chilling then thrilling as we encountered a series of screams and other sounds that revealed a possible fact that something cryptid roams these woods. Sadly getting audio on this thing proved difficult as it was about a mile away but believe me whatever it was that we heard it was something REAL!

When I came back to Las Vegas to chill out for awhile I was not aware how much paranormal and strange place their were. Mount Charleston possesses 5 of the 6 types of geological and ecological systems all just outside of Las Vegas. You can check out our Mount Charleston Page at.... Click Here: Mount Charleston Nevada Which was designated as a recreation area for the Air Force and eventually a look out point to examine nuclear blast testing from a safe distance.

At one time this area was also used for mining. I always enjoy to visit these mines because some of them are in scenic areas. But it also makes a person wonder the hardships that a miner had to endure while trying to survive. Fletcher canyon is home to much wildlife prone to the region. Perhaps some would laugh at me when I mention the word Bigfoot which is North Americas Lost but GREAT Ape. Perhaps we as cryptozoologist are the ones who are lost when it comes to finding a real Sasquatch but for some of us encountering this beast is a reality as well as a real life dream coming true.

I read in a study that some of western Nevada is forested and has had bigfoot sightings or rather a hot zone. Most of California, Oregon and Washington sate are also in those hot zones. I also learned that during forest fires or devastating storms chaos occurs and such creatures come out of the wood work a little more. Perhaps this was the case when I had decided to move in on hiking in this canyon hours after a forest fire just a couple miles away.

For those that do not know such facts Mount Charleston is in the spring mountains it is perhaps the tallest towering almost 12000 feet. The Paiute Indians believed that these mountains are their birthplace or rather all creation. Although I have visited so many locations around this range I am finding their is always something new to see.

The terrain in Fletcher Canyon is diverse but it is known for its ancient bristle cone pines as some are 5000 years old. I think the trees here are amazing and it is so important that the public is not reckless with fire. Our first visit here I spent it hiking through some snow and realized how secluded this area can be the deeper you traverse in.

As you hike within the canyon mountain mahogany, silk tassels, white oaks, wild roses, sage brush and many other sorts of fauna grow here. The Ponderosa and Singleleaf Pinyons are the most common trees found along the trails. Eventually the canyon narrows turning into a slot canyon where if their is no waterfall you can climb. As you take the trail their are areas its overgrown and their are a few other unmarked paths. The spring water trickles down the rocks and trail for the more adventurous can traverse deeper on in eventually crossing paths with another trail head. The limestone cliffs that are found deeper in the canyon probably drew some private mining into the area years ago. The area surrounding Fletcher Canyon is 399,000 acres perhaps more if you were to include all the Spring Mountains.

In theory its safe enough to say that something cryptid such as bigfoot might be able to survive with the abundant supply of springs and wildlife. These same mountains also hold many caves formed naturally thus adding an extremely thick foliage to the area and you got a needle in a haystack. So we ask that you check out the Audio clips and investigation. Maybe it was not bigfoot perhaps something of another nature according to researching legends their is one about this a woman and her experience with these so called giants. These same natives who pass this story today have ancestors thousands of years ago who survived off such springs like the ones in Fletcher Canyon. Many native American tribes often referred to Bigfoot as a A Giant or Sasquatch. Below is a story about this myth of one of these giants in the Paiute Nation which at one time was part of locations such as Fletcher Canyon! Who are these giants are they just cannibalistic men or are they North America's Great Ape?

In addition to this canyon one similar to it just miles away exist that is also very strange which is called Robbers Roost. You can visit that location by Clicking Here: Robber's Roost!

Above are photos of the Mount Charleston area. The middle photo is of a canyon which could be Fletcher Canyon as I did walk along the road prior to sundown and took various scenic shots. Many of the canyons in this area sit at high altitudes with high cliffs on both sides and are abundant in natural spring waters which draw in an abundant amount of wildlife. As you can see in the middle photo not only would we face high altitudes but would be climing into an ancient pine forest in a place where anything could hide.

=

The trail would take us along many living and dead ancient pines. At times it would split off or become very overgrown. Many types of plant life grow within this canyon. Aanything can hide here including above the cliffs such as the last photo above. The limestone is a porous rock where water can flow through it thus this canyon is abundant all year around with water and in the spring a fairly decent sized waterfall.

Ancient pines.....rock formations, old sign post and even water irrigated pipes are some of the finds found within the Fletcher Canyon area. We never found the limestone mines but the canyon trail is rather inviting as the spring meanders closely to the path and high cliffs nestle thick vegetation in between.

The Woman and the Giants

A Paiute Legend

Once there lived a giant named Tse'nahaha who killed people by looking at them. He always carried a big basket of thorns on his back. When he caught anyone, he threw him over his back into the basket.

A group of Indians were playing the hand game in a certain house, and were having a good time. They had stationed a woman outside to watch for Tse- nahaha. After a while, she heard Tse'nahaha coming. He was talking to himself and singing. The woman tried to warn the people that the giant was coming, but they did not hear her. Tse'nahaha was getting closer. The woman became frightened, and jumped into a little pit and pulled a basket over herself.

She heard Tse'nahaha come up and stop. He stooped down and crawled into the doorway of the house and looked around. Twice he made a sucking noise with his lips. When he looked at anyone in the house, that person died at once. The others noticed the dead ones staring and said, "What are you people looking at? What is there worth looking at?"" Then they, too looked at Tse'nahaha and died. Soon they were all dead. Only a little baby was left inside, sleeping. Tse'nahaha went away.

The baby commenced to cry. It was almost daylight now. The baby crawled over to the people and pushed them over. Then the woman left the pit and went inside, but she did not look at the dead people. She called the baby, and said, "Let's go away." She set the house on fire, took the baby, and went away. With her digging-stick, she dug kani'd while the baby slept and ate.

As she was living this way, another giant, Pu'wihi came along. Pu'wihi picked up the baby, holding his head between his second and third fingers, and carried him over to the woman. He said to her, "Where are you from?" She answered, "I am from that house over there--the one with the smoke coming out. There are many men in it." The giant went toward the house. The woman was very frightened and tried to hide. She set her digging-stick in a clump of wild oats and vaulted as far as she could.

When the giant came back from the house he did not see her. He looked all around. He was furious and twisted his nose in anger. He found the wild oats and saw the mark of her stick. This showed in which direction she had jumped, and he went to a big flat rock. She had gone under this rock, and was crying.

The giant took the rock away and uncovered her, but it was dark by this time. He said, "I'll get her in the morning. Now I'll make a fire and grind up this baby." He found a large flat rock, ground up the baby, and ate him. He was having a fine time and lay there, singing. The woman could hear him. After a while he went to sleep. Then the woman got up and made another jump toward the east, to the house of her aunt.

When the woman came to her aunt's house, she was safe. The giant could not see the mark of her stick to find out which way she had jumped because this time she had jumped from a rock.

The Paiute Indians come from this woman.
