Eternal Flame Falls

I wanted for a change to go somewhere real adventurous with trails, woods, rock formations so I took our group out to the Eternal Flame. I never was here before I really did not have much of a clue on how to find it or where it was. But since this was a place of power and indian land it is bound to have some ghost stories and legends. Another mishap occurred Jason closed the van door on my arm when I was getting some of my equipment out and ready. Ill tell you think I could take a hint to call it a  night lol? So we entered the trailhead and it was quite peaceful. Did not seem like anybody was partying at any of the picnic spots. The peacefulness here was gorgeous no cars, the stars were all out it was very pretty.

We worked our way down some paths that twisted and turned and came to a very shallow creek bed. We worked our way downstream for quite sometime climbing up and down onto slate rocks, the steep bank, heard some rushing water and soon came to a giant water fall. The waterfall was pretty high as we looked down. Jason climbed down first and was standing on a ledge below so I followed and so did Sara. When I caught up to him I noticed another waterfall a couple feet ahead with another high climb down. It was quite slippery but we managed to climbdown hanging onto tree roots sticking out of the ground. When we got to the bottom there was a bulge behind the waterfall with the Eternal Flame. You could smell the gas it was strong. The flame was going strong and it was purple most of the time. It was very chilly last night so getting near it felt good its warmth. The flame was blowing to the east and it seemed to be coming out of the rock I was pretty fascinated with it. I then took a few photos with Jason in it and he took a few of me. The water from the waterfall was very icy as I held onto the rocks by the flame to have my photo taken of our achievement. We eventually made our way downstream as the flame became out of sight.

I heard rumors of a second eternal flame around the ben where the giant uprooted tree is so we spent 10 minutes trying to light it but it was a no go the wind kept blowing out our lighters. I wanted to find this was it would have been nice for warmth since the woods were very cold.  As we made our way downstream away from the falls the high cliffs gave it a forboding sense. There was many rock formations, another waterfall to the left, and many fallen trees we had to climb over. These woods are fairly large and once you go off trail I could see people getting lost for hours here. Eventually based on our direction being so deep in the woods I found a step twisting embankment what looked like a dry stream. We climbed at least 200 feet up the ravine and I heard on 2 occasions what seemed like something thrown at us since both times taking a break something came from the trees I do not know what but the first time it hit the object was very close to me then a few minutes later again the same thing.  Eventually we came out to a overgrown trail. We worked our way up the trail it was nice finally to get away from the stream.  We hiked up the twisted trail sometimes it disapeared because of a tree branch blocking the way and it was still fairly peaceful but I no longer felt comfortable here more like wanting to rush out of there. I guess on the way out of here I heard some branches crack and break very hard it could have been a deer but it happened 2-3 occasions as we were heading down the trail.

Eventually we came out on a road and followed it till we got back to the van. I was so relieved to get of those woods not because it was evil but we hiked for at least a couple hours on and off the trail with my pretty heavy bag and I was pretty exhausted of my energies. I cannot say this area is haunted like alot of people have mentioned to me but none the less it goes into one of our ancient places of mystery and power and we were able to get out there and investigate it. One thing about it that I thought was weird is it almost was too peaceful no bugs, no crickets, NOTHING. Then we decided to head on off to Woodlawn Cemetery to close off the night.
