Apopka's oldest cemetery has graves dating back to 1854. From research I found that Edgewood and Greenwood are all the same cemetery. The oldest section was fenced off but was considered to be part of Edgewood at one time. Although one thing stands out is that the cemetery is very segregated with religions and in each area of this cemetery has an older section.

The cemeteries site had many important buildings one of them including the first Baptist Church but was eventually moved. I could be wrong on this but the Eldredge family I believe is buried here since their home practically bordered this cemetery which easily contains in the 1000s with burials.

Their is one grave that stands out called the Mason Grave which was the burial spot for Dr. Zelotes H. Mason. He played a big role in securing a charter for the local Masonic Lodge. He practiced medicine in the area from 1871 to 1893. Another man named Peter Buchan an influential Mason living in Apopka in 1854 came to the area after hearing stories of Florida's climate and fertility. He was a Scottish Silversmith.

So perhaps its little things like this that give the cemetery a historical feel. The cemetery contains rolling hills, a gazebo, creek and even a veterans monument. It is Apopka's large cemetery and of course beautiful in the area. Lots of ghost haunted Edgewood Cemetery!
