In 1921 the DeLand City Hall was built since during this time DeLand hit a major growth spurt as far as building and population grew. Many of the buildings that were built were a new Mediterranean style an example of this would be the Artisan and of course City Hall. The architectures would put giant M's carved into the front of buildings to show that this was the style used. City hall was erected to control the sub-divisions, side walks, and politics in the area. Today city hall houses the mayor and is in control of the utilities such as city water, sewage, garbage disposal etc. One thing I want to ad is that many of my neighbors have claimed that city hall has been frauding them I was a victim of city hall back in July 2004 when they did a wrong water reading, then later my meter broke and was charged double. Why I mention this is simple to say city halls people are more cursed perhaps then the ghost that roam its hall lol.

Anyhow when the building was erected as the city's government center it was the original base for the DeLand Police which was stationed in the basement. This is one of the only buildings in Volusia county to have a basement of this size quite a rarity. Also the second floor housed the firemen which lived here at one time. Like most police stations and fire halls I am very sure that this building has many tall tales.

On the front of the building is a plaque which reads perhaps the first mayor, trustees and commissioner. A few of them names are quite common in DeLand such as Earl W. Brown, R. Conrad,  T.L. Osteen and many more. The strange thing is all the plaques say the building was erected in 1926 not 1921 like most of the history tells us. So perhaps it took 5 years to construct this beautiful structure.

DeLand city hall is quite an active place at night very few lights remain on and it is closed up. It has a very eerie feeling and there is some energy here. We will return a second time as this historical landmark is one of my favorites but also seems like there are many mysteries remaining to be found about the ghost that haunt this place. Perhaps DeLand's first mayor haunts this place or maybe other well known names like R. Conrad who roams its halls in the later hours of the night. One may never know unless you dare to find out here!
