Beresford Presbyterian Cemetery sits in a very poverty stricken area part of town. Perhaps a very unsafe area as there were signs of beer bottles in the cemetery and other forms of abuse done to some of the stones. Most of the stones here are vaults that are buried half way in the ground. The cemetery sits on a hill and has many very old twisted tree which give it a night of the living dead type of feel.

The most haunted part of the cemetery is an area in the back where almost every stone is either buried by dirt or very high grass as the farther back you get the less kept this place becomes. Also a soldier is buried here and there is alot of energy in this area for some reason. However There is not a lot of activity here; perhaps because so many cars go by blazing there bass or because a lot of the locals every evening are outside drinking, shouting etc. The cemetery dates back to the late 1800s and was originated by the First Presbyterian Church here in Deland. Of course the church has a history of its own. It is not very large perhaps 3 acres at most but some stones are fresh while others are so worn or illegible. Some stones are blocked off by metal cables perhaps family plots more or less and at night you can barely see them.

There is even one soldier buried here Private Marvin W. Long which served in the 1st Florida Volunteer Infantry. It was one of the first regiments for African American Men and its purpose was to eventually invade Cuba which is off the coast of Florida. It never happened but the infantry was almost 1000 men strong.

So as you can see there are a few little bits and pieces of history here. I believe on a good night very late perhaps there is a good chance that this cemetery can become extremely active. It has a very uncomfortable feeling to it there are areas so pitch black in the back it gives you that turn around feeling. But perhaps its not the age of a cemetery that makes it haunted or its history but maybe its the condition it remains in as this one perhaps has been forgotten by many.
