The Aurora Ghost Tunnel was once a cavern that was refitted with steel piping for almost a half of mile under ground. You could tell at one time it was a cavern due to the stone that surrounds each end of it. Perhaps the tunnel was widened so that the well known Cayuga Creek no longer flooded as it did over 50 years ago when a flood washed away many homes and people were said to have drowned in the 20 foot waters. I called this the ghost tunnel because I found it to be haunted beyond normal levels. Perhaps because beyond the shadows in the darkness it is a peaceful place where the supernatural could coexist without many people around.

The tunnel is very foreboding and since I walked threw it entirely by myself I was astounded by other interesting things by ghost. Under the 2 to 3 feet of water was ice as clear as glass in some areas where many large fish swam below my feet. There were areas where the ice was weak or where there were holes with water revealing itself. I adored the tunnel as a place where nature thrives. During trout season the steelhead run upstream and have to go threw this tunnel. This is how I found it one day I was fishing and seen it after that it caught my curiosity. Also a friend of mine 4 years ago told me of his adventure in the tunnel and said Rick you have to give it a try during the summer bats are hanging all over the tunnels ceilings. So this was more then just about ghost for me here. It was about journeying into a place hardly touched by mankind.

The tunnel is strange you at times feel watched, hear voices, foot steps. But as a scientist of the paranormal I had to learn to tune into what is a car above me and what is water trickling or ice crackling. So there are many sounds in the tunnel that would make you jump if you are not into the dark haunted tunnel scenario. At one time I believe a mill existed at the one end of this tunnel. The reason is that a century if not longer ago mills were abundant in the area. Most mills are built on the creek. When you get threw the tunnel you come across a stone wall it is man made but very old 1800s and the stones are cracked and aged but you can tell that they were part of some old foundation at one time. So the tunnel here is old and has a lot of history all within walking distance of my home.

I did not have to take many photos here to find out that many ghost walk the tunnel at night. I also here that there is catacombs near by so maybe the haunts are related to them. This really turned out to be a nice little piece of history as I walked under the village into a tunnel where no end can be seen till you finally come around a bend after that a relief sets in knowing that the Aurora tunnel is conquered and you are out.
